Sherpas: Inner Kingdom Portraits.

Aurora photographer Robb Kendrick serves as your guide in this week's PhotoVoyage. Learn more about Sherpas, an ethnic people numbering approximately 35,000, who call the Hindu Kingdom of Nepal their home.

Sherpas are best known to the outside world as strong, reliable porters (mountain guides). Supporting commercial treks and mountaineering expeditions by guiding and transporting gear into the upper elevations of the Himalayan Mountains - even to the 29, 029ft. summit of Mt. Everest - has become the most lucrative job in the Kingdom.

The world of the Sherpa is more diverse and complicated than a base camp trek though. Explore, the sub-alpine landscapes of Nepal, learn more about the positive and negative impacts of tourism on the culture, and meet some Sherpas in the Portraits section.

Explore visually by choosing thumbnail images (above) or linearly from start to finish by Topic (left).
