In Williams, California, in the heart of California's rice growing area, at a biomass electric power plant 600 tons of rice hulls are burned each day to generate electricity for 35,000 homes in Northern California.
120 tons of ash result from 600 tons of hulls. The ash is used to put back into the soil to act as an insulator in the steel industry.
