HDPE

Several types of plastic will be sorted, shredded and recycled at Union Carbide in New Jersey.

This high-density polyethylene (HDPE) will be turned into tiny plastic pellets and sold to the makers of shampoo and detergent bottles.

According to a 1999 report by the EPA, 5.4% of plastic products are recycled in the United States.

Each year, more than 22 million tons of plastic is generated.
