Tea Boxes

Kintaro Koyangi, 72, of Kakunodate, who for 52 years has been practicing the craft of cherry bark woodworking.

The craft started over 200 years ago as a side business of the samurai.

It has died out in most of Japan, but it has remained in Katunodate.

The inside of the boxes are made from willow bark and the outside from the bark of the cherry tree.

The boxes are used to hold tea.
