Feeding the Planet:

Technology. Peace. Population control. Resource management. The weather. Luck.

If our planet is to have the ability to sit down at the dinner table and share a decent meal together - as we do in America on Thanksgiving Day - we will first have to sit down and balance the list above.

Feeding the Planet is one of the incredible global efforts we face this new millenium. Some challenges that we face:

- Drought resistant strains of food can be ruined by freak weather.
- High tech machinery can harvest high-yield crops and still leave people hungry
- Overseas: Fighting, corruption, and poor distribution channels leave foodstuffs destined for the sick and hungry to rot in storage.
- Should arable land be used to house growing populations or preserved in order to feed the very same masses.

Thanksgiving Day is an opportunity to celebrate what we are thankful for having. Aurora photographer Robb Kendrick illustrates the importance of asking ourselves if enough is being done to insure that future Thanksgiving celebrations will be shared by those who follow us in good health and with bountiful feasts.
