Congo - Chinko - Crazy.
Last October a team of the world's most notorious environmental activists accompanied by Aurora photographer Chris Anderson and journalist Mike Finkel undertook a journey into the heart of darkness: the Central Africa Republic's Chinko River basin. Central Africans familiar with the remote region of this Chinko river valley likened it to the Garden of Eden.
The team's mission was to survey the fragile Chinko ecosystem and bring awareness to the many dangers facing it. Their method for doing so -- use inflatable kayaks and catarafts to navigate the entire 350 mile length of the unknown Chinko river. Their challenge -- to do all of this facing heat, bugs, infection, poachers, and uncertain danger around every bend.
