The Basque: First & Forever
Genetically and linguistically distinct from any other people in Europe, the Basques believe they have inhabited their homeland since the beginning of time.
The Basque heartland spans the French - Spanish border along the western Pyrenees. Basque Country comprises the French provinces of Labourd, Basse Navarre and Soule and the Spanish provinces of Guipuzcoa, Biscaye, Alava, and Navarre. More than three million Basques inhabit this land.
Learn more about the unique Basque culture with Aurora photographer Joanna Pinneo. Run with the bulls in Pamplona, harvest grapes at a family-owned French vineyard, and test your strength at a stone lifting competition.
