Australia: Down Under Discoveries.

The challenge: The Australia Quest expedition mountain biked 1,200 miles in six-weeks from Australia's southern coast to the continent's geographical center.

The mission: Investigate Songlines (semi-mythical tracks Australia's Aborigines use to navigate the Outback). The expedition had to use them as directions to travel from landmark to landmark.

The obstacle: Could non-Aboriginals "read" Songlines?

The team: Aurora photographer David McLain joined Dan Buettner's team of Australia Quest scientists and adventurers. Virtual team members included 1.2 million students following the expedition online at www.quest.classroom.com.

The results: See for yourself in this week's PhotoVoyage. Check out the QUICKTIME.movies topic too!
